H&K Retro and Vintage was created out of a true passion for collecting. After retiring from a 35-year career in law enforcement — 30 years as a Police Officer and 5 years as a civilian with Cleveland Police — I finally had the chance to follow a lifelong dream: running my own antiques and vintage shop.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved finding unique, quirky, and unusual items. From retro furniture to timeless collectibles, there’s something special about holding a piece of history in your hands and giving it a new home. When the opportunity came to join this established antiques centre in Durham, I knew it was time to share that passion with others.

At H&K Retro and Vintage, I’ve built my collection around variety, character, and quality. I enjoy curating items that are full of charm, whether they spark nostalgia, add a talking point to your home, or help complete a collection you’ve been working on for years.

Part of the joy of running this business is the constant hunt for unusual and interesting pieces. I’m always on the lookout for:

especially vintage teddy bears and handheld toys that hold memories of childhood days gone by.
Retro and Vintage Glass & Pottery
elegant, decorative, and collectible pieces from the mid-century and beyond.

A Personal Approach

Unlike large antique chains, H&K Retro and Vintage is run with a personal touch. I’m here in the shop every Wednesday and Friday, always happy to chat about antiques, help identify items, or share the stories behind the pieces on display.

For me, antiques aren’t just objects — they’re memories, craftsmanship, and stories worth preserving. Many customers come in looking for a gift or something to add character to their homes, while others are collectors hunting for that elusive item to complete their set. Whatever brings you in, I’ll do my best to make your visit enjoyable and rewarding.

Why the Name “H&K”?

The name H&K Retro and Vintage comes from my two sons, Harvey and Kai. Like many teenagers, they sometimes lend a hand in the shop (especially if bribed with payment!). Including their initials in the name keeps the business personal, family-driven, and full of character.
